Czechia just became the 29th nation to scrap all of its Covid-related entry requirements for travelers.

It was announced on Friday that the Czech Republic will remove all of its entry requirements for incoming and returning travelers. The rules are now in effect, starting April 9, 2022. The announcement was made by the Czech government, according to the report in the local news outlet Prague Morning.

Unvaccinated American Travelers Allowed In, All Testing Requirements Scrapped

The Czech Republic reopened to American and Canadian tourists in the summer of 2021 before a slew of restrictions were imposed in late August of last year, including banning all unvaccinated American travelers when the United States was placed on the country's “very high-risk” list. Essentially, unvaccinated travelers from any country that was deemed as high-risk were banned from any non-essential travel to Czechia.

Before the requirements came into effect, Czechia’s entry restrictions for non-EU or Schengen travelers (including those from the United States, Canada, and the UK) were in place since early this year.

Among them, fully vaccinated travelers were required to show proof of full Covid vaccination and fill out the country's official Passenger Locator Form prior to travel. Pre-departure and/or on arrival testing wasn’t required for travel.

All of these entry restrictions are no longer valid as of Saturday, April 9, 2022.

Czechia is now the 29th country internationally and the 14th in the European Union to fully remove its Covid-related entry requirements for travelers.

Travel Requirements Now Removed In Czechia – An Overview

From April 9th, all Covid-related entry restrictions will no longer be required for international arrivals to the Czech Republic. All travel restrictions that will be removed include:

  • No pre-departure or on arrival testing
  • No proof of vaccination
  • No online passenger locator form
  • No quarantine requirement
  • No countries banned

This means that international arrivals and domestic returning travelers can travel to Czechia as in pre-pandemic times, with no entry restrictions at the land or air crossing.

Internal Travel Rules Throughout The Czech Republic

Following some stricter entry requirements imposed in late December 2021 in the midst of the omicron wave, including booster requirements and pre-departure testing for most travelers, Czechia began to scrap some internal Covid restrictions in early February of this year.

On February 9th, the country officially removed its internal Covid vaccine passport requirement to access hospitality venues, events, cultural venues, theaters, cinemas, and the like.

Restrictions continued to be eased the following month, as travelers coming from any EU or Schengen area were allowed to enter the Czech Republic for non-essential reasons without providing any proof of vaccination or testing requirement.

What About Face Masks?

Officials in Czechia relaxed the country’s mask mandates from March 14, 2022, removing the requirement for most public indoor establishments with the exception of public transportation and in all health and social care facilities throughout the country.

It was reported this week that the remaining requirement for mask-wearing on public transportation will be scrapped following the Easter weekend. The Czech Republic’s health minister, Vlastimil Válek is set to bring the proposal to the Cabinet next week to finalize the decision on updating the current mask mandate.

How To Prepare For Your Trip

Before booking any type of travel, always make sure to check the latest local entry requirements that are in place.

When the announcement was made, officials in the Czech government also warned travelers to double-check the requirements of their airline, because although unlikely, some might still require testing and/or proof of vaccination in order to get on board.

While Czechia doesn't require travel insurance to visit, all tourists should still put an emphasis on having travel health insurance, especially a policy that has covid-coverage.
