Have you ever dreamed of working from your laptop in a gorgeous European city? I think throughout the pandemic most of us are daydreaming about swapping our stuffy home office for a cobble-stoned café with the Adriatic sea as the backdrop. Well, here’s your chance to make that daydream a reality.
In celebration of their brand-new digital nomad visa, a program that allows remote workers to work and play in Croatia for up to a year, the city of Dubrovnik is hosting a contest to award 10 nomads a 1-month stay to try it all out from April 23 to May 23, 2021.
A total of 10 winners (couples welcome!) will be given 1-month accommodations in the historic and stunning city of Dubrovnik, co-working space, organized excursions, and more perks, all to sample Croatia’s new digital nomad visa, while providing vital feedback and further creation to the program.
Digital nomads, entrepreneurs, and people who are employed by companies who allow them to work remotely from all corners of the world are welcome to apply.
Winners are given the title “Digital Nomad In-Residence” for their month stay, bringing their specific talents to the table where they will contribute and collaborate with the other nomads in the program. There are organized group workshops one day per week where all participants will bounce ideas off each other and contribute to helping build up Dubrovnik as the next digital nomad hotspot.
Additional excursions and cultural activities are also provided as a bonus perk, but most importantly for any digital nomad, lots of time to work on your own business is allotted throughout the program. Monday to Thursday winners are given access to co-working spaces and strong internet connections to focus on their own personal work tasks.
Apply Now
Any remote worker or digital nomad should be applying for this competition. It’s not only a once-in-a-lifetime experience to work and play inside Croatia for 1-month, but also the chance to help form nomad infrastructure for the future of the remote working community and the opportunity to meet incredible like-minded thought leaders.
Applications are easy. Simply submit a 60 second video that includes your name, location, what you do, your experience and reason for applying. They are not looking for production quality, so a video from your cellphone works just fine.
The contest closes on March 31, 2021. Winners will be announced on April 5, 2021 on the Total Croatia News website
The Rise of the Digital Nomad Visa
2020 was a year that came with a lot of baggage, but one good thing it did bring was an exponential rise in remote working. Digital nomads, people who are location-independent entrepreneurs and employees have been a thing for years, but popularity in the remote work lifestyle has suddenly skyrocketed.
Throughout the past 12 months, forward-thinking countries have realized the true benefit of having remote workers visit for extended stays and have started offering ‘digital nomad visas’, a way for nomads to legally stay/work/play for a year at a time.
Croatia was quick to answer the call and held a Croatia Digital Nomad Conference on October 16, 2020 called “Dubrovnik For Digital Nomads” where speakers like the mayor, tourism boards, and local entrepreneurs launched the very framework for the visa that is now available in 2021.
Why Croatia?
Currently, 13 nations worldwide are offering official digital nomad visas, but Croatia has arguably one of the best, if not the best, on the market.
The requirements are easy to qualify for, processing costs are ultra-low, and Croatia ticks so many boxes on every nomad’s checklist. Great weather, central EU location, reasonable cost of living, access to both city and beach life, rich cultural and historic vibes, and decent internet connections.
