An airline has become the first in the world to offer flights at low, budget prices between the United States and Asia. Many travelers in the US often have dreams of visiting the Far East one day, but the distance and the cost involved in getting there often proves a prohibitive factor. Thanks to the new offerings by ZIPAIR – a low cost airline based in Tokyo – travel dreams could be set to become reality for millions of US based travelers.
Not only does ZIPAIR intend to offer low-cost flights between the US and Asia, it’s also got plenty of low priced options for travelers looking to travel all over Asia once they touch down in the continent. Here’s a closer look at the details of its headline-grabbing flight between Asia and the US, plus a look at Japan’s current travel restrictions.
ZIPAIR Offers Cheap Intercontinental Travel – Information For Travelers
For most American travelers, it’s fair to say that ZIPAIR isn’t on their radar. The small, low-cost airline is a newcomer to the industry, and was founded in 2018 before being launched in June 2020 at the height of the pandemic. Operating out of Tokyo’s Narita airport, ZIPAIR has a modest fleet size of just three aircraft, each of which are Boeing 787-8 airplanes that have been leased from Japan Airlines. Yet whilst it may be small now, ZIPAIR has big ambitions.
The budget airline took a step closer to realising its ambitions this week when it released details of its inaugural long-haul flight. During a press conference yesterday, ZIPAIR revealed that they would be kicking off their low-cost long haul offerings with flights between Tokyo Narita airport and Los Angeles airport – which is set to be the first pan-Pacific flight offered by a low-cost airline.
ZIPAIR will be starting its flights from Tokyo-Narita to Los Angeles on December 25th. According to the airline, there will be an initial offering of three flights per week, with the opportunity to scale up operations in the future. One-way tickets are set to start from as little as 27,500 Japanese Yen – which is around $240 USD. The flight is a non-stop service, whilst passengers can also enjoy free internet whilst on board.
Speaking about their inaugural offering, President of the airline Shingo Nishida said:
“Ever since the introduction of ZIPAIR, one of our key goals was to establish a flight across the Pacific and I could not be prouder to stand here today to announce the launch of our Los Angeles route. Our mission is to define a new standard in the air travel industry by offering a unique low-cost business model on long-haul international routes. ZIPAIR features a NEW BASIC travel experience by offering personalized services during the flight, which will essentially shorten the sense of time. We are eager to welcome travelers in the U.S. to personally experience this truly new concept in air travel.”
The announcement of the route was also warmly received by the Deputy Executive Director of Los Angeles World Airports, who said:
“We are thrilled to have ZIPAIR offer its service at Los Angeles International Airport, which will further strengthen the cultural and economic ties between our cities. There is a growing demand for nonstop flights between LAX and Narita International Airport, and we are pleased that ZIPAIR shares our desire to provide additional options for our guests who want to experience the food, culture, art and history of Japan and the surrounding region.”
Whilst travel to Japan for vacation purposes isn’t yet possible, there are signs that Japan is softening its stance on travel restrictions. The country recently softened some restrictions such as quarantine for business travelers and those traveling to study. Whilst a wider easing of travel restrictions may not be on the cards just yet, travelers can rest assured that once the borders open once more, they’ll no longer have to break the bank to visit.
