Some Of The Best NEW Flights Making Sun And Sea Super Accessible This Winter
U.S. Airlines have been building their presence in the Caribbean this year, hoping to offer Americans a sunny escape from winter weather. The deal is even sweeter when there are no connecting flights, and paradise can be reached on a direct route.
With loads to choose from, here are six of the most interesting new direct flights to the Caribbean.
- Miami to Dominica
American Airlines have just launched their brand new route from Miami to Dominica. This is not just significant for the airline, but for both countries as a whole. It’s the first direct flight from the US to the island nation.
Hailing itself as the best kept secret in the Caribbean, the little island has a lot to offer in the way of ecotourism natural beauty. But it’s pushing its tourism industry aggressively, so its comparatively quiet atmosphere might not last for long. Just recently, they opened up a VISA-free agreement with China, the world’s biggest travel population, so as things loosen up around the world, don’t expect the serenity to last too long.
The new flights from Miami run three days a week, connecting the country with around 40 US cities.
2. Orlando to Turks and Caicos
Starting on December 17th, Frontier Airlines will be offering nonstop flights from Orlando to Providenciales, starting at just $59 each way. This is Orlando’s first-ever non-stop flight to the Turks & Caicos Islands, getting travelers there in under two hours.
Bonus: Sun Country will also be launching a nonstop flight from Minneapolis to Providenciales, starting mid-December, each Saturday, with one-way fares as low as $159. This is also Minneapolis’ first nonstop flight option, arriving just in time for Midwesterners to escape the cold!
The Turks and Caicos Islands are known for pristine waters, rich culture, and world-famous beaches. Now with two lost-cost airlines adding routes visiting just got more affordable and accessible than ever.
2. Philadelphia to Montego Bay, Jamaica
Spirit announced their new route from the City of Brotherly love to Montego Bay as part of their extensive new expansion into the Caribbean. Currently, Spirit is the only airline flying into Jamaica’s third-largest city from Philly, giving travelers from the North East a different destination to satiate their longing for some sun.
Visitors can expect excellent beaches, vibrant nightlife, and a host of golf courses to enjoy in this cruise ship favorite.
The new flights will run three days a week with the budget airline.
3. Miami To Chetumal, Mexico
American recently brought in this exciting new route to the Quintana Roo capital city. The first flight touched down last week and was a welcome addition to the city’s tourist landscape. The state capital is an often glanced-over city in what is one of the busiest tourist regions in the world, but there’s plenty on offer in Chetumal. A quieter, less tourist-heavy city means attractions like the nearby Oxtankah ruins can be enjoyed without the crowds.
Don’t expect to see any marketing for the new route until 2022 however, as the three flights a week route isn’t getting its public funding for promotions until then.
4. Newark/Dulles to Barbados
It’s been a big week for Barbados. It officially became the world’s newest republic after ceding from the British commonwealth, and it welcomed several inaugural flights from the US. United has launched direct flights from Newark and Dulles to the Caribbean island flying once a week currently.
In a nice touch, the inaugural flights were piloted by some Barbados nationals. The Island nation has had a good year, opening for high-earning digital nomads, strengthening infrastructure, and setting itself up to be a continually excellent place to visit for a wide range of tropical pursuits.
5. Cleveland to Nassau, Bahamas
United is also bringing back direct Caribbean flights for Cleveland locals that want to escape the weather this winter. Starting December 18th, the weekly flights will be available allowing a simple non-stop journey to the Bahamas from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
The Chicago-based operator expanded its Caribbean and Latin American based flights heavily this winter, including some flights to Guatemala from Chicago, in an attempt to compete with American who has the monopoly on the route currently.
Plenty of New Routes Springing Up
These are just some of the new routes being brought in for the winter period. Many airlines are doubling down on their flights to the Caribbean as it emerges as one of the most accessible regions in the world while the pandemic affects the tourist industry.
