France has ended most of its COVID restrictions just in time for the summer tourism season. They’ve officially moved the USA to its “green list” meaning that now is the easiest time for Americans to visit since before the pandemic. France had gone heavy on vaccination passes toward the end of last year even requiring a vaccine pass to enter a shopping mall. This reversal seems to be a continuation of the trend of European countries doing a 180 on covid policies and the IATA calling for an end to all travel restrictions in Europe.
The Internal Changes
With this change, you’ll no longer need to show a vaccine pass for restaurants, bars, malls, stores, public transit, and museums. A vaccine pass will still be required for hospital visits and nursing home visits.
France has also dropped their mandatory mask mandate in most places! The government has left it up to individual businesses to decide if they still want to enforce mask rules. The mask mandate is still in place for public transit and medical facilities though.
What Entry Requirements Remain
One major change is that Unvaccinated travelers can now visit France for tourism. Up until now they needed to present a reason to visit the country and undergo testing. Now they can enter as they wish with a negative PCR test not older than 72 hours or an antigen test not older than 48 hours. Vaccinated travelers can enter France test free.
The suspension of the vaccine pass is huge for American travelers because there was some confusion surrounding how the CDC white card would be accepted in the country. Some EU nations, like Portugal, are outright not accepting the CDC card because it is not digital and therefore easy to fake.
Both Vaccinated and Unvaccinated Canadian travelers can also enter France under the same rules as American travelers. This is because of Canada’s place on the green list.

What To See In France
The French tourism industry is probably dying for tourists to come back after a long two years of restrictions, lockdowns, and vaccine passports. It’s been a long time since sights like the Eiffel Tour and Arc de Triumph have been mobbed by tourists. But did you know that there’s more to see in France than just Paris? Not to take away from the capital because as said by Audrey Hepburn…Paris is always a good idea.
Check out some of the other cities in France on your next trip overseas, like Strasbourg to the east. Strasbourg is a city in Alsace that is home to picturesque city streets, views of the Alps, and the country's best Christmas markets.
Anyone who drinks wine will know the name, Bordeaux. The French city in the southwest of the country is a beautiful old town surrounded by vineyards boasting some of the best wine in the world.
And finally, don’t sleep on French beach towns. Marseille and Nice are great summer destinations to get your taste of the beach with that delicious French cuisine.
