Officials in Greece announced this week that the Republic is dropping all Covid testing requirements for fully vaccinated travelers coming from the U.S., Canada and Australia.

The updated entry requirements were announced in a press release issued by Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority.

According to the updated guidance, visitors from the above countries will be given the same standard as travelers with the EU Digital Covid Certificate (EUDCC). The entry test requirement for all EUDCC holders was officially scrapped last week.

According to the official website of the European Union, an individual carrying a valid EUDCC shouldn’t be subject to any additional entry restrictions such as Covid tests and/or quarantine.

Greek Tourism Minister, Vassilis Kikilias, also made the announcement via Twitter over the weekend, writing that:

“A very important development for tourism – fully vaccinated travelers from the U.S., Australia and Canada are not required to show a negative Covid test to travel to Greece!”

Latest Entry Requirements For Greece – Information For Travelers

To break things down, here are the latest entry requirements for Greece if you’re coming from the U.S., Canada and Australia. All visitors must present at least ONE of the following travel documents for entry:

  • A vaccination certificate that indicates the full course of an accepted Covid vaccine for travel was taken no later than 270 days prior to travel. A booster dose of the vaccine will keep the validity of the certificate after the 270 days have passed.
  • Proof of recovery (certificate of illness) from Covid over the past 180 days from travel.
  • Travelers without a vaccine certificate or proof of recovery will have to present a PCR test taken no later than 72 hours of departure to Greece. Alternatively, an antigen test from 24 hours of arrival to Greece is also accepted.
  • And all travelers to Greece, regardless of vaccination status, have to complete the Passenger Locator Form prior to entry.

Testing Requirements Put In Place December 2021

The entry test requirement for travel to Greece was put in place last December. Under that guidance, all arrivals from the U.S., Canada, Australia and the UK had to provide either a PCR test from 72 hours or a rapid antigen test from 24 hours of travel regardless of vaccination status.

When the testing rules were initially announced, they were set to be enforced until at least January 10, but now they’ve been officially scrapped.
