Leading bus company Greyhound Lines has revealed that it is set to resume its operations across the land border between the US and Canada next month. The announcement, which came on October 26th, is bound to be warmly received by travelers on both sides of the border, with the route having been closed throughout the durations of the pandemic due to the land border between the two countries being closed for some time.

The US-based bus company, along with airlines and the cruise industry, is one of the many travel related businesses that has struggled throughout the pandemic, with many travelers hesitant to travel due to the risk and restrictions in place. However, that looks set to change. Here’s everything you need to know about Greyhound crossing the border once more, including what requirements customers must fulfil in order to be able to travel.

Greyhound Resumes Border Travel – What Travelers Should Know

Whilst airlines get a lot of the headlines, and cruises get most of the glamour, traveling by bus is amongst the most popular methods of travel in the US, and is also one of the most affordable and convenient ways to get around the country. Carrying 16 million passengers a year across 5 billion miles of road on a fleet of 1,700 busses, Greyhounds are important for many people – especially those communities either side of the Canadian border.

Greyhound announced during the week that they would be resuming their services across the border from next month. This will include services from destinations in the US, such as New York and Montreal, to destinations across the Canadian land border such as Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Tickets for the border-hopping journeys are already on sale on Greyhound’s website or through the company’s app, and some routes appear to have sold out already.

In order for travelers to be able to ride the Greyhound for non-essential reasons, travelers must be fully vaccinated, and they must also wear facemasks when on board. Those crossing the border into Canada must show proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test, whilst there is no such requirement for those crossing from Canada into the US.

The cross border trips are set to start from November 8th, which is the date that the land border between the two countries reopens fully to travelers after more than a year of it being closed. Other restrictions are also set to be eased from the date, including restrictions between the US and the UK, along with those between the US and the EU.

The decision to relaunch bus services across the Canadian border appears to have been made with one eye on the holidays. Speaking about the decision, Greyhound’s Chief Commercial Officer Rob Friedman said:

“Greyhound is just as excited as our customers to resume cross-border travel to Canada. Our goal is to provide our passengers with affordable fares and stress-free transportation as they return to normal travel, especially around the holidays.”

The CDC recently announced that it was okay for travelers to be able to travel for the holidays. Last year, many were asked to stay at home due to the high number of positive Covid-19 cases in the country. However, the advent of the Covid-19 vaccination has led the CDC to conclude that fully vaccinated travelers would be safe should they wish to travel either domestically or internationally.
