The Seychelles have reopened their borders for tourists without having to quarantine for 10 days.

There is one caveat. The only travelers allowed to bypass the quarantine are those that have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Previously the tropical archipelago in East Africa only allowed travelers from 7 countries who had to quarantine for 10 days and present proof of a negative Covid-19 test.

Travelers who have been vaccinated will not need to quarantine for 10 days but will still be required to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test no older than 72 hours of arrival.

Travel Off Path recently predicted that travelers who have been vaccinated will still face travel restrictions. While vaccinated visitors from all countries can now visit the Seychelles without quarantine, the mandatory 72 hour test is still required.

Leading health authorities are still unsure if the vaccine will stop the spread of infection. While it does provide protection for the person who has been vaccinated, researches are still trying to determine if they still could unknowingly be silently spreading the virus.

“We hope that this will open up the tourism industry for the locals primarily for the small hotels who are struggling on La Digue, Praslin and also on Mahe. And also provide the kick that our economy desperately needs,” Seychelles Tourism Minister Sylvestre Radegonde said at a press conference earlier in January.
