Due to recent travel restrictions, almost every traveler to the Dominican Republic will now need either a PCR test or an Antigen test in order to return home.
Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom are all requiring citizens who are returning home from abroad to first show proof of a negative Covid test, before being allowed to board their flight.
Travelers shouldn't worry – Hotels, clinics, labs and agencies all throughout the Dominican Republic are moving quickly to ensure they can provide tourists with test results within 72 hours.
Below we have very detailed information on exactly where you can get a test in the Dominican Republic.
We cover major cities throughout the D.R. where tests are available, incuding: Punta Cana, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo, La Romana and more.
Hotels and Resorts in the Dominican Republic Offering Covid Tests
The easiest way to get a test performed is right inside the resort or hotel you are staying at. The Tourism Ministry is working alongside the Health Ministry to ensure that all major hotel chains in the country have enough Antigen tests to offer to their American and British guests, free of charge. Canadian tourists need the PCR type test, which is also available for a fee at some resorts.
Here are some of the brands and chains that have already made updates to their testing policies and availability.
RIU
The RIU is offering free antigen tests for guests starting on January 26, 2021.
If a guest does test positive, they are also offering a free 10-day quarantine stay on the property.

In addition to the hotels mentioned in this article, AM Resorts (which owns several Dreams resorts in the DR) is also offering tests free of charge to guests staying 3 nights or more- 2 per guestroom).

@Kashlee Kucheran, I will need a PCR test for my return to Canada . Most sites are stating the results are available 48-72 hrs. This makes me nervous as the result may come through while we are on our way to the airport. Would the tester speed up the test results if given an explanation. This is very important.

Thank you for this article. As always, Traveloffpath has the breaking news faster (and more thoroughly) than anyplace else. We are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to visit the DR later this year after having canceled a planned trip earlier this month due to COVID.
