The city-state of Singapore has worked hard to keep the spread of the virus at bay, and was scheduled to open a transport corridor with Hong Kong yesterday until a spike in Hong Kong’s cases caused it to be delayed.
With a potential travel bubble set to open in the region, here’s all the latest COVID-19 entry requirements for entry into Singapore.
Access to Singapore is currently extremely limited. However, the country has agreements with several countries under different travel schemes. These are as follows:
Reciprocal Green Lane for Business and Official Travel
Air Travel Pass for any purpose of travel
All travelers who are not Singaporean citizens or permanent residents must receive entry approval before arriving, which can be provided by the relevant Singaporean government agency or alongside the application of a Smart Travel pass. Failure to obtain approval will be denied entry to the country.
Holders of Singapore’s Long-Term Pass must take a pre-departure Covid-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test within 72 hours before their flight. They must show a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test result in English and from recognised laboratories in order to be able to enter Singapore. The test result must contain the following details:
Those arriving from an Air Travel Pass nation (Australia, Brunei, China, New Zealand, Vietnam) are not required to be tested prior to arrival, yet they must be tested upon arrival. Those coming from a Reciprocal Green Lane country must also be tested upon arrival in addition to their pre-flight test.
Following their Covid-19 PCR test upon arrival, those arriving courtesy of both the Reciprocal Green Lane scheme and the Air Travel Pass must remain in declared accommodation until they receive their result. Once they receive the negative result, they are free to go about their business.
Booking for these hotels must be made prior to arrival, and a list of participating hotels can be found here.
Travel insurance isn’t compulsory for travelers to Singapore, yet travelers are responsible for any costs incurred should the catch the virus and need medical assistance in the country. Travelers arriving in Singapore should have medical insurance that covers COVID-19.
Travellers to Singapore must have the TraceTogether app installed on their phones to enter the country in order for the government to monitor contact tracing.
Masks must be worn at all times when outside, however there are situations when masks must be removed, such as exercising or eating.
A vaccine for COVID-19 is not yet available to the public. Singapore has not announced any mandates on a proof of vaccine record (POVR) or an international certificate of vaccination or prophylaxis (ICVP) for entry
Travellers who require a visa to enter Singapore must submit visa applications once they have obtained the requisite entry approvals under the prevailing border control measure. Those previously issued with visas, which had been suspended due to COVID-19 and are still valid, do not need to apply for a new visa.
