Less than a two-hour drive from Los Cabos, Baja California Sur you will find Todos Santos. This quaint old town has been designated a Magic Town, and once you’re here, you’ll know why. With its laidback vibe, beautiful beaches, and eco-friendly activities, it has become an incredible place to relax and enjoy the bohemian-style atmosphere.
Surfing
Todos Santos Bay is one of the best surfing spots in the entire Baja Peninsula, and some would say that even in Mexico. It’s been attracting travelers for many years that wish to ride the ocean waves. This thriving surfing hotspot has point breaks, beach breaks, and world-class big wave sites. The best surfing in towns are Playa Pescadero, Playa Los Cerritos and Playa San Pedrito. From beginner to professional surfers, it is considered a paradise for all surfers. You can rent a surfboard or wetsuit from vendors or even find lessons along the beach. So if you are a surfer seeking adventure, you will love it here.
Guided Tours
Todos Santos is a town with a lot of history, and when you take a guided tour around town, you will see its historical and cultural evolution. From Jesuit Missionaries, the booming sugar cane industry, and even their role in the Mexican Revolution. You can visit historic homes and buildings while learning the fascinating history of this small town. Its cobblestone streets built in the 1800s and colonial facades are well preserved. Visit the Mission of Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Todos Santos, built in 1733. In recent years, Todos Santos has turned into an agricultural center and has welcomed many artists that have claimed residence in this picturesque town.
Hiking and Eco Tours
If you love being outdoors, hiking is another excellent option. There are amazing hiking trails that you shouldn’t miss. They are around the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains and up to the cliffs and coves in Punta Lobos. The top views are incredible, overlooking the Pacific Coast and ruins of a former shipping port. These are top-rated tours, so book and secure yours with one of the tour operators in town. Other Eco-Tours include the Sierra de La Laguna Biosphere Day Hike or the Pacific Bluffs cliff walk, where you will pass above crashing waves and sea lions. Different nature-filled activities include whale watching, where you can spot humpback, and gray whales, during the winter months or join turtle releases that occur most evenings, mainly from December to February.
Glamping
You can spend a few days in a luxury tent in the camps at the Sierra La Laguna Biosphere in the mountains or at Isla Espiritu Santo in the Sea of Cortez. This is an unforgettable experience, where you will sleep surrounded by pristine wilderness, with all the comfort and amenities of a luxury hotel. Enjoy the peace and quiet of this site, where you can also do some stargazing. You can choose your program or package, including a ranch lunch, hiking, happy hour, and chef-prepared meals. In the morning, after a delicious breakfast, you can go on a hike and enjoy the spectacular views or go bird-watching in the mountain or coastal areas. Other activities include swimming with sea lions and whale sharks, kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and surfing. Try a Mexican cooking class with a local chef and tortilla and cheese-making classes with a ranch family.
Best Hotels
Todos Santos Inn is a hacienda-style hotel that was once the home of a sugar baron. With high ceilings, courtyard gardens, and antique furniture, this house has been restored and has preserved the feeling of that era. Located in the heart of the historic downtown, it’s worth a visit if you´re not staying there. While strolling through downtown, don’t miss visiting the world-famous Hotel California. And just like the Eagles song, which legend has it, this hotel was the inspiration; we can assure you it’s still a lovely place. You can walk through the arches, visit the rooftop for a view of the town or eat lunch at their restaurant La Coronela. There are many other hotels, from luxury to budget-friendly, and most of them are small but full of character.
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the routine and stay in a beautiful town and enjoy the most stunning sunsets on deserted beaches, don’t think twice about Todos Santos. If you are in Baja California Sur, this is definitely a destination you should visit.

Hotel California isn't currently operating as a hotel. It hasn't been since 2019. Todos Santos is one hour, not two, north of Cabo San Lucas. The surf spots are San Pedrito, Cerritos and La Pastora.
