If you are in Cabo San Lucas, there are plenty of options to explore and spend a few days in less crowded locations. These fantastic destinations offer incredible one-of-a-kind experiences. Here are seven day trips from Cabo San Lucas that you shouldn’t miss.
Todos Santos
Just a one-hour drive from Cabo, Todos Santos is the most popular day trip. Because of the proximity to this Magical Town, you will have plenty of time to enjoy your day in this picturesque, laidback quaint old town. With its beautiful beaches, it is one of the best surfing spots in the entire Baja Peninsula. You can also trek its amazing hiking trails or take one of their top-rated tours to Sierra de La Laguna Biosphere Day Hike or the Pacific Bluffs cliff walk. And if you just choose to stroll around town, you will surely find a place to relax and enjoy the bohemian-style atmosphere.
La Paz
A two-hour drive from Cabo, La Paz is a charming town well known for its many natural wonders, including an abundance of sea life. If you visit between October and March, you will be able to swim with the magnificent shark whale, a must-do and a top-rated activity in La Paz. You can stroll its beautiful Malecon or rent a bike and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of this location. The Espiritu Santo Island is an hour-long boat ride from La Paz, a protected reserve with incredible marine life, here you can also enjoy snorkeling or rent kayaks to go to the inland mangroves or out to the sea.
Los Barriles
A 90-minute drive from Cabo San Lucas, you will find Los Barriles, a laid-back small beach town. A favorite spot for U.S. and Canadian expats, here you will find incredible mansions along its red dirt roads. There are many activities in the sea, including fishing, windsurfing, and kiteboarding, which are practiced between December and March. Touring the town in ATVs is a top-rated activity. Another popular activity is hiking its mountain trails. And after your day in the sun, be sure to enjoy a Margarita in one of the beachfront restaurants.
San Jose del Cabo
A short 30-minute drive from Cabo San Lucas, you will reach San Jose del Cabo. It’s so close that you can even hop on a public transport bus to get there. This town is much quieter than its neighbor, and here you can observe its Mexican heritage. When you visit its historic center, you will spot some parts of colonial architecture and its history as a Jesuit mission in the eighteenth century. You will find many art galleries and excellent restaurants.
Cabo Pulmo
A little over two hours from Cabo, you will find the village of Cabo Pulmo. With incredibly colorful coral reefs abounding with manta rays, sharks, and clusters of tropical fish. Cabo Pulmo National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a fantastic spot to explore and highlight your Cabo vacation. Here you can snorkel, kayak, and scuba dive with sea lions and many other marine species. The beach is long and practically empty, so you will have it almost all to yourself. You can catch a bite to eat in any seafood shacks that serve fresh seafood tacos on the beach.
Sierra Laguna Waterfall Hike
If you enjoy hiking, this day trip to the Sierra Laguna Mountain Range is one of the most beautiful sites to visit. An hour from San Jose del Cabo is one of the less explored areas in the Peninsula; this biosphere was designated a protected reserve in 1994 by UNESCO. Here you will find giant Cardon cactus, pine forests, palms, canyons, waterfalls, and streams. We recommend a guided tour to the waterfall, as you will need a 4-wheel drive vehicle if you go on your own. The tour companies can even pick you up from your hotel in Cabo San Lucas. Enjoy this day trip, where you’ll be able to refresh yourself after a hike in a natural pool that forms under the waterfall.
El Chorro and Santa Rita Hot Springs
There are many thermal springs within the Sierra de la Laguna; two of the most accessible are El Chorro Hot Springs and Santa Rita Hot Springs. We suggest you book a tour to visit these amazing thermal water pools. You won’t find them offered in the usual tours, but they will accommodate you if you ask the tour company. If you do it on your own, consider that the dirt roads are narrow, and driving can be an adventure in itself.
Cabo is home to breathtaking landscapes and beautiful beaches with incredible weather almost all year long. Next time you visit, be sure to include these awesome day trips that will lead you to unforgettable experiences.

Appreciate your review here - great assessment. Surprised to see Los Barriles on this list, but I love it. Great place to visit during Lords of the Winds Windsurfing competition. I would also add Cerritos, near Todos Santos and make sure you visit Balandras Bay when going to La Paz.
