Travel down Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, and you’ll find the extraordinary touristic corridor known as Los Cabos. With white-sand beaches facing the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, this authentic paradise is one of the country’s most popular destinations, and it’s easy to see why. Here are seven unique activities in Los Cabos to experience this summer.
Sit Back and Relax
Before looking for things to do in Los Cabos, take a minute to bask in the sun, enjoy the fresh air, and warm breeze with warm white sand under your feet. Los Cabos has lovely weather, beautiful white beaches, and awe-inspiring rock formations rising from the bottom of the Sea; these are just a few highlights that will make your visit to Los Cabos worthwhile. Its most famous beach is Playa Del Amor or Lover’s Beach, perfect for sunbathing with its calm waters and taking a dip to cool down. Here you will experience the duality of mother nature when you walk to the other side of the iconic Arch at Land’s End, and you will arrive at the Divorce Beach. This turbulent side of the Pacific Ocean is not suitable for swimming, and once you’re there, you’ll understand how they got their names.
Enjoy the Local Gastronomy
Los Cabos has some of the best unique culinary experiences in the country and the most exciting food scene. From street-food stands to fine-dining establishments, you will find everything from world-class seafood to delicious steaks. For an out-of-this-world dinner experience, go to Animalon by the Sea, the first floating restaurant by the acclaimed chef Javier Plascencia. For the best fresh ceviche, go to Blue Fish at the Shoppes at Palmilla. Another option is Acre, with a vibrant dining experience in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna mountains. So whether you enjoy sipping Margaritas or an exquisite Mexican wine, Los Cabos is a place where foodies will rejoice.
Go Whale Watching
Seven distinct whale species, dolphins, and other impressive sea creatures visit the Sea of Cortez every year for its calm, warm waters. Enjoy a recreational fishing trip or go whale watching with an experienced crew of sailors and get inspired by the magnificence of the local marine wildlife. Humpback whales, sperm whales, whale sharks, or gray whales, they’re all regulars at Los Cabos, and they’ll make you one as well. So be prepared to feel small alongside these enigmatic creatures.
Explore Historical Towns
Los Cabos might be a secluded region, but it has been inhabited for centuries. San José del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas, and many other surrounding villages are home to extraordinary colonial architecture going back to the first European settlers. These settlements have been recognized as Historical Towns and host an astounding collection of historic buildings that help tell the region’s story. Explore forgotten convents, churches, and monuments—all unique and authentic eye-catchers for history buffs and architecture lovers.
Seek an Adventure
Cliff swings, bungee jumps, ziplines, off-road motoring, and scuba diving are amongst the most popular activities in and around Los Cabos, and they all take place in gorgeous natural landscapes. So add some excitement to your trip to Cabos in the hands of professional guides in the safest yet wildest way possible. Nothing like a bit of adrenaline to blow off some steam and go back home more relaxed than ever.
Buy Arts and Crafts
Street markets, art galleries, and craft shops abound in every town in Los Cabos, and they’re a treat to explore. The world-famous Mexican craftsmanship and its bright colors inspire and excite, and meeting the people behind such beautiful works of art is a humbling experience. The art scene in Los Cabos has been growing the last few years, meaning you’ll surely find the perfect piece to bring back home.
Los Cabos Nightlife
We’ve all heard the stories, and it is true. Both tourists and locals party hard in Cabos, and there’s an experience for every taste. From bottomless margaritas to salsa dancing, the night scene at Los Cabos is one to remember. When the sun goes down on Los Cabos, this is when the city comes alive. So whether you’re looking to party under the bright lights, dance to the sounds of the local music scene, or just sip a glass of wine and soak in your surroundings high above downtown, life after hours in Los Cabos has a little something for everyone.
Los Cabos is an ever-changing destination adapting to today’s demanding tourism. From farm-to-table dining experiences, ecotourism to holistic experiences, there’s more to Los Cabos than frozen Margaritas. Of course, the Margaritas are still fantastic, but if you want to know what Los Cabos is all about, come to Mexico and spend the summer of your life.
