Visit Chapultepec Castle and its Park
The castle located at the top of Chapultepec Hill dates back to 1778. At one point in time, it was the location of the Military School that suffered an armed intervention, known as the Battle of Chapultepec. With beautiful terraces and unparalleled views of the city, you will also admire its rich history, art, and artifacts. The Bosque de Chapultepec is one of the largest city parks in the Western Hemisphere, measuring over 686 hectares. In this area, you will find many museums, monuments, and fountains.
Walk to the Zocalo and its Historical Center
The Zocalo is the second-largest city square in the world, with an area of 46,800 square meters. It represents the beating heart of this capital city. Bordered by the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace, the old City Hall Palace, and the current Government Building, you can stroll the streets or sit and relax at any of the many restaurants surrounding this historical site. It was the main ceremonial center in the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan prior to the Spanish Invasion.
Experience the Soumaya Museum
Named after the late wife of Carlos Slim, one of the richest men in the world, this cultural institution was founded in 1994. The Soumaya Museum houses important works of art and exhibitions, and it is free to enter. With its impressive exterior of 16,000 aluminum hexagons, the interior is even more impressive. This minimalist building, with its Grecian marble floors and spiral staircase at its core, it's a breathtaking space that you will enjoy.
Paseo de la Reforma and Angel of Independence
Paseo de la Reforma is a 15-kilometer avenue designed in the 1860s and inspired by the grand European boulevards. It is also known as Paseo de la Emperatriz, Paseo Juarez or Paseo Degollado. If anything characterizes this route, it's the skyscrapers and huge buildings surrounded by trees, statues, and monuments. The architecture is contemporary, with a modern and international style of the 1950s. With its wide sidewalks, there have been hundreds of historical events that have taken place in Paseo de la Reforma, such as demonstrations, popular celebrations, concerts, and an endless number of civic activities.
Visit the Latin America Tower
This was the first skyscraper to be built in an area of high seismic risk; it has been around for 65 years and is still a popular tourist site. Inside this impressive construction, you can visit the highest aquarium in the world, located on the 38th floor. There is a museum, a cafeteria where you can stop for lunch, a souvenir store, and a spectacular view from this skyscraper's observation decks.
Dining in Coyoacan
The colonial neighborhood known as Coyocan is a magical bohemian area surrounded by great restaurants and markets. Its center square has incredible restaurants for a memorable gastronomic experience. You can walk along its interesting streets and visit different museums, admire the colonial-era residences, and one of the most popular sites: The Blue House, Frida Kahlo's home, and currently the museum that exhibits her creative ambiance and personal belongings.
Archeological Sites
The Ruins of Teotihuacan Archeological Site are located 30 miles north of Mexico City, and it's a must for history buffs. The most prominent building, the Pyramid of the Sun, is considered one of the most magnificent pyramids built in pre-Columbian Americas. The Templo Mayor is located in Historic Downtown, where Archeologists continue to unearth the remains of Tenochtitlan, the prehispanic Aztec Capital. The Museo Nacional de Antropología (National Museum of Anthropology). The facility houses artifacts, including the famous Aztec Calendar Stone, among many others. The museum is so extensive that you can spend an entire day exploring the many collections and exhibits.
