The Magical Town of Tulum, located south of Playa del Carmen and Cancun, is part of the Riviera Maya, named after its Mayan history and natural wonders. With stunning beaches, lagoons, and surrounding cenotes, here's a list of the top seven hotels to book on your next visit to Tulum.
Encantada Tulum
Encantada Tulum is located in front of a beautiful beach of white sand and turquoise blue waters, a landscape that makes it one of the most requested hotels. The decoration of the hotel and the rooms is simple yet cozy. You can enjoy air conditioning or if you prefer, the gentle sea breeze. From the terrace of the rooms, you'll have a beautiful view of the beach. Among the activities, you can do bicycle rides, yoga classes, and spa treatments-the massages are outstanding. If you're a foodie, you will feel right at home. They treat you to a natural and nutritious breakfast based on fruits and yogurt. For the rest of your meals, they delight you with delicious traditional Mexican and international cuisine.
La Valise Tulum
This hotel was designed to help you disconnect from everyday stress and to pamper yourself. The Valise Tulum is located on the beachfront and built with ecological materials in brown hues. It has four types of accommodations: Beachfront Master Suite, Beachfront Upper, Beachfront Lower, and Jungle View. They all have air conditioning, a private bathroom with a bathtub, comfortable beds, and a beautiful view of the landscapes. The hotel has a beautiful, heated infinity pool, yoga classes, Wi-Fi signal, and free parking. In the morning, they serve breakfast with fresh local ingredients included in the room's rate. For the other meals, you can opt for one of its two fine restaurants.
Ma'Xanab
Ma’Xanab boutique hotel is more of an experience than just checking into a room. Their philosophy centers around reconnecting guests to nature during every aspect of their stay. This includes minimalist designed rooms, saltwater showers, and lush outdoor spaces throughout the property.
Travel Off Path stayed at Ma’Xanab in October 2021 to see if it lived up to the hype and were pleasantly surprised with the level of service and the super-chill environment. For travelers looking for a party, Ma’Xanab is not your vibe but is a great fit for those looking to unwind in calm, tranquil surroundings. All guest rooms come with a dedicated beach cabana, so you’ll never have to fight for a perch on the playa.
The Beach Hotel
It is one of the most requested hotels in Tulum for its proximity to the beach. Most of the furniture is made of wood, with comfortable common areas for you to enjoy the aroma of the Caribbean Sea and the sound of its waves. The Beach Hotel has a beautiful pool, playground, snorkeling, scuba diving, yoga classes, fitness, spa treatments, and live music. All to pamper you. Some of the deluxe rooms have a private pool. There's also air conditioning, a private bathroom with a hot tub, a safe, free Wi-Fi signal, and a balcony with beautiful views. Ziggy's and Fresco's restaurants prepare delicious Caribbean and international dishes with an exquisite selection of drinks and cocktails.
Mezzanine a Colibrí Boutique Hotel
It is located a few meters from one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. In addition, it's an exclusive hotel for adults, ideal for a couple's getaway. The hotel has terraces to enjoy a beautiful beach view, an outdoor pool, and a bar. The rooms are beautiful, and they are decorated in light colors to give luminosity and spaciousness. They have a private bathroom with a bathtub, air conditioning, minibar, balcony, and free Wi-Fi. The chef in charge of its restaurant specializes in Thai food and prepares delicious dishes with fresh ingredients from the sea, which are a delight. Nearby, you have Las Palmas and Paraíso Tulum, with crystal clear waters and very fine white sand. You will also be able to visit the archaeological sites and more beautiful places with breathtaking natural landscapes.
Aloft
Tulum is no longer known for being a budget destination, but that doesn’t still mean budget-friendly options don’t exist. The Aloft recently opened its doors in early 2021 and offers a lot of amenities and perks for a much lower price than most hotels in the area.
Travel Off Path recently stayed at the Aloft and we were impressed with everything it had to offer, all while being a quick taxi or bike ride away from Beach Road or a stroll away from Aldea Zama.
Most guests will pay about 70% less at Aloft than beachfront hotels, but get access to one of the biggest and best gyms in the city, a rooftop pool area with oversized cabanas, and clean, comfortable rooms with creature comforts like blazing-fast Wi-Fi.
The Aloft also offers a la carte stays or all-inclusive wrist bands, making it easy to customize your stay just the way you like it.
Sueños Tulum
Nestled in the heart of this beautiful area of the Riviera Maya, Sueños Tulum is a paradise for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The decoration of the hotel is simple and in light colors. The furniture is made of ecological materials and very functional, with warm and comfortable common areas for you to enjoy enjoyable moments. All air-conditioned suites have a private bathroom with a shower, seating area, beautiful sea views, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms also have a Jacuzzi. You have at your disposal a beautiful outdoor pool, yoga classes, and a wellness and spa center. In addition, you can go to the beach, which is within walking distance. The cost of the rooms includes a delicious continental breakfast, with a restaurant offering a variety of dishes for lunch and dinner. The selection of drinks from the hotel bar is spectacular. A few miles away, you can visit tourist sites such as the archaeological sites and the Tulum National Park.
Coco Tulum
Coco Tulum is a beautiful hotel with a private beach consisting of cabins and the main building with rooms. The atmosphere of Coco Tulum invites you to rest without doing much other than relaxing or joining activities such as yoga and spa treatments. Its cabins and rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and beautiful views of the beach or garden. The rooms have a private bathroom with a shower or bathtub. In the hotel's restaurant, you can taste delicious Mediterranean dishes on an a la carte menu. The resort also has a beach club with delicious drinks from its bar. You can book some of the tours it organizes to Punta Laguna, nearby archaeological sites, or cenotes.
Sanará
A hotel in paradise whose name means to heal. It's designed to spend days of relaxation and distraction with activities such as yoga, spa treatments, and even a personal trainer. Its rooms are spacious and comfortable, with air conditioning, an interior bathroom with a shower, and the bathtub is outdoors in some rooms. Its beds are large and comfortable, from where you can see the garden or the jungle. The hotel has a beautiful pool to enjoy a rich sunny day, but you can choose one of the rooms with a private pool if you prefer privacy. In its restaurants, “The Real Coconut” and “Casa Banana,” you treat yourself to delicious samples of Mexican and international cuisine. Near the hotel, you can visit tourist attractions in the area such as archaeological sites, the Sian Ka'an Ecological Center, and the Tulum National Park, among others.
In all of the above options, you will find quality care and comfort and the best service on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. While Tulum has become an extremely trendy destination as of late, it's still a magical place that will make for an unforgettable vacation.
