Digital nomads and remote workers alike have taken over the workforce.
Whether they're living out of a backpack abroad or essentially getting paid to sip hand-crafted lattes at their favorite cafe, it's easy to see why this flexible lifestyle has become all the rage across the globe.
Unfortunately, even as we turn the page to 2025, the workforce as a whole hasn't caught up. Not everyone is privileged with endless vacation days or the freedom to work when and where they please.
That's where AAA comes into play. No, not to jumpstart your car; they provide great travel advice too.
AAA recently highlighted 15 U.S. destinations for the best weekend getaways for those who can squeeze in 48 to 72 hours of fun rather than jet off to Europe or Asia, as enticing as that may be.
5 of the 15 said destinations make for awesome beach getaways, so we narrowed down their recommendations
If you're in need of Vitamin D and idyllic coastlines, check out these 5 U.S. beach destinations:
Fire Island: New York's Car-Free & Care-Free Escape
Well, forget the road trip idea! Fire Island doesn't allow vehicles.
Unless you're one of those trendy TikTok ‘van lifers' who transformed an ambulance into a living space, tough luck getting around as only emergency vehicles are allowed on the island.
No worries, though. Just like Staten Island and Long Island, you can reach lesser-known Fire Island's East Side by ferry from Bay Shore or the West Side from Sayvilles
See schedules below:
Fire Island may be a small, narrow island, but don't be fooled by its diminutive size.
This urban oasis displays many personalities. Maybe I should give it my TalkSpace referral code…
Upon arriving at Fire Island's port, you'll find the West Side, boasting peaceful, jaw-dropping nature, ranging from scenic hikes through the Sunken Forest to great swimming and fishing locations (permit required).
The East Side is more action-packed and notably a popular LGTBQ-friendly escape with lively nightclubs, especially in summer.
There are no resorts or upscale hotels on the island, just laid-back bars, cozy condos, and idyllic beaches away from the city grind.
Marco Island: Minimum Crowds & Maximum Relaxation
A few days in Marco Island is all you need because it's the type of place you know you'll be back to visit!
Whether it's oceanside opulence or all-day excursions, you can unwind in luxury or spend countless hours under the sun year-round, such as booking a day out in the Everglades, a dolphin-watching tour, or numerous other boat rides like an unforgettable sunset cruise.
Marco Island is lined with picture-perfect white sand and bluish-green waters, the perfect backdrop for a relaxing weekend, especially with posh amenities like JW Marriott's beach butler service.
Marco Island is under an hour away from Fort Myers Airport (RSW) or about an hour and a half from Fort Lauderdale (FLL).
Provincetown: The Cradle of American History
For those who prefer to hit up the beach with a history lesson, the fascinating town of Provincetown ticks off both boxes.
Provincetown is one of America's most historically significant destinations as it was here where the Pilgrims first landed in 1620 after a months-long journey across the Atlantic.
My how times have changed. Like Fire Island, Provincetown has a ‘come one, come all' approach known for being one of the most LGBTQ-friendly getaways in the States.
Found on Cape Cod, this charming town boasts quintessential East Coast vibes with seafood diners, postcard lighthouses, boutique shops, and a surprising array of scenic activities in nature.
Check out the charm of the Land's End Inn, a century-old 5-star gem that perfectly complements the region's intriguing historical timeline.
Rehoboth Beach: An Underrated Beach In An Underrated State
Delaware's most visited city is beautiful and full of surprises: no sales tax, buzzing boardwalks, crystal blue water, and a down-home downtown oozing East Coast charm. Sold yet?
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware may not have been on your 2025 bingo card, but it's never too late to shift game plans.
If there's a claim to fame for this underrated beach town, it's made headlines for being President Joe Biden's preferred vacation spot.
If only those very articles didn't include photos of an 82-year-old man in swimwear as proof in a day and age of ‘pics or didn't happen'.
Don't worry; I got you. Instead, picture images of soft light sand, crashing waves, and wide open nature trails in surrounding state parks.
Score a room at 4-star The Bellmoor Inn and Spa for just $100 in March and check out Avelo Airlines, anchoring Delaware's only commercial airport (ILG).
San Diego: California's Best Beach City
The most well-known destination on AAA's beach recommendations has got to be San Diego, a city having one of its best years yet.
As a San Diegan myself, I can see why AAA recommended California's Golden Child as a quick escape, given the high hotel rates.
Between surprisingly cultural neighborhoods like Little Italy, gargantuan Balboa Park that would swallow up New York’s famous Central Park, and, of course, endless stunning beaches, there’s no shortage of things to do for an action-packed weekend.
Check out these 3 San Diego region resorts I've had the fortune to stay at; they're all worth a splurge!
