This winter, travel is expected to peak at numbers not seen since before the pandemic. Over 100 million passengers are expected to travel over Christmas and New Year’s in the U.S. alone. That means likely a lot of travelers are out of practice on what they might need for their trip, including attestation forms, possible tests depending on the country they are flying to, and most importantly, travel health insurance.
Travel insurance is something every traveler should have, whether there is a global pandemic or not, but especially during times like these when travel can become seriously interrupted due to the virus.
Every passenger should ensure they have coverage that includes medical care if they contract the virus while abroad, accommodation coverage in the case they are required to quarantine, and trip interruption insurance should they become sick before the trip even starts.

Medical Expenses:
Medical expenses, like hospital stays and prescribed treatments, are covered if you are infected with Covid-19 while abroad. PCR Test Coverage:
If a doctor medically prescribes you need a PCR test, this insurance will cover the costs of those expensive tests, which can easily be $100-$300 apiece.
Accommodation Costs Due to Quarantine:
One of the biggest fears of travelers is, “What if I get covid abroad and have to quarantine for 10-14 days? Who will pay for the accommodation costs?”

24/7 Doctor Chat:
One of our favorite features is the 24/7 doctor chat on the app. Let’s say you’re abroad and you think you might be sick but want to talk about your symptoms with an actual doctor first before heading out to find a local doctor. With the chat feature, you can get some advice from the comfort of your hotel room before determining if you need to take a trip to the hospital or not.
No Deductible:
Some travelers think they have a good policy with covid-related coverages, but in reality, they have a policy with a huge deductible, meaning they have to pay a certain amount on top of the cost of their policy if they become ill and want to make a claim. With HeyMondo’s single trip policies, there is no deductible.
Non-Covid Related Coverages:
While all the above features are given as examples of how coverage works for Covid, the coverage is in effect for non-covid related illnesses too. Travel health insurance covers you for things that might happen on your trip like falling down and breaking a bone, losing your luggage, or to compensate you for a delayed flight.

- Up to $10,000,000 coverage of medical and hospital expenses
- Up to $500 if your luggage is delayed
- Up to $800 for passport and travel document replacement due to loss or theft

- Up to $7000 for trip cancellation or $4500 for trip interruption
- Up to $1250 in accommodation or transportation due to natural disasters
- Optional coverages for cruises, higher-risk sports activities, and even cellphones, laptops, and camera gear
The fine print of travel health insurance
We personally find that HeyMondo doesn’t have as much confusing fine print as some of the major carriers and generally it’s very easy to understand.
