Cancun has been ranked as the most popular destination for American travelers this summer – according to data analyzed by the insurance company, Allianz Partners.
The extremely popular and global travel insurance and assistance company undertake research each year to find out which foreign destinations are the most popular when it comes to traveling Americans.
And, this year the data analyzed have shown that Cancun is indeed the number one tourist hotspot for travelers coming from the United States.
What Was The Research Based On?
The data analyzed was taken from more than one million travel itineraries of Americans that have purchased travel insurance from Allianz Partners for their summer holidays – but only for vacations that last between 5 to 8 days.
The research, however, did not take into consideration any itinerary for trips that lasted just a few days – including weekend trips.
Using a variety of comprehensive research tools to analyze the data, the results revealed that Cancun remained at the top of the list of international travel destinations for U.S. travelers – with the Mexican city having also taken the number one spot in 2021.
Why Is Cancun So Popular With U.S. Travelers?
There are many reasons why Cancun is such a popular destination for vacationers from the U.S. – with the city having so much to offer visitors.
With an extensive range of accommodation options to choose from – including a variety of brand new resorts which have recently opened in the city – finding a place to stay in Cancun is certainly not a difficult task.
It is also very easy to fly to the city from the U.S. – with many American cities offering direct flights to Cancun, some under just a few hours.
And, there is no doubt that the Mexican city – which is situated on the Caribbean Sea – offers some of the best beaches for sun-seekers to enjoy – which the Mexican government is continuing to maintain for tourists.
There are also many fun activities to partake in – which provide entertainment for the entire family – as well as a number of budget-friendly tours available to those who are looking to watch what they spend.
Cancun Is Also Proving Popular With Tourists From Other Countries
Cancun is not only proving a popular holiday destination for American travelers – but visitors from other foreign countries are also flocking to the city.
And, with an increasing number of flights being made available for Canadians, Brits, and nationals from other European countries – to the city, Cancun could potentially become even more popular.
Having predicted that the city would ‘sell out’ over the Easter Holidays – these predictions were certainly not wrong with more than a million visitors have reportedly visited the region over the weekend just gone.
This has resulted in the government estimating that as much as $1 billion will be brought to the local economy by the city’s huge number of visitors – which is a significant increase, and 67% higher than during the same time last year (2021).
Three In Four Americans To Travel Domestically In The Summer
Although many American travelers are deciding to travel abroad for their summer vacation, the data – analyzed by Allianz Partners – showed that most citizens from the U.S. will indeed opt to travel domestically.
In fact, three out of four Americans – that have purchased travel insurance with Allianz Partners – have done so for coverage of a planned domestic trip inside their own country.
Speaking out about the results of the data analyzed by Allianz Partners, their Director of External Communications, Daniel Durazo, said:
“While it’s no surprise that Americans are planning to kick back and relax in sun-soaked destinations both domestically and internationally, US cities that were once buzzing tourist destinations pre-pandemic, like Boston, New York and Los Angeles, are seeing a significant return of travelers this summer as well, signaling a positive step in tourism recovery.”
