Americans are hoping 2021 will be a better year for international travel. After the pandemic kept the majority of U.S. citizens from traveling last year, pent up demand for traveling abroad keeps building. As the long winter sets in and the excitement of the holidays fade, many Americans have been researching their next vacation. 

According to Expedia 2021 travel trends report, Americans are looking at tropical beach destinations first. Here are the Top 10 International Destinations Americans are planning to visit in 2021.

10. Nassau, Bahamas

Known for it's white sand beaches and pristine blue ocean waters, Nassau is on many American's bucket list for 2021. While it may be months before cruise ships start arriving again, Nassau has been a long time favorite for U.S. travelers.

9. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

A long time favorite of American travelers is the resort city of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The bay of PV is one of the most beautiful destinations on the west coast of Mexico. The city has countless luxury all-inclusive hotels where travelers can listen to the sound of the waves while soaking up the sun.

7. Montego Bay, Jamaica

Montego Bay is Jamaica's premier tourist destination with golden sand beaches, sunny weather and exciting nightlife year round. 

In 2019, prior to the pandemic over 2.7 million Americans visited Jamaica. 

Jamaica does require U.S. travelers to provide proof of a negative Covid-19 test when arriving.

6. Maldives

The Maldives is really heaven on earth. Perfect crystal blue waters, beautiful weather and overwater luxury bungalows make the Maldives a premier destination for Americans every year. 

The Maldives currently requires that all U.S. travelers provide proof of a negative covid-19 PCR test.

The beauty of Tahiti and Bora Bora are jaw-dropping. From some of the best waves for surfing in the world to diving, snorkeling & wildlife watching there are countless things to do. 

American travelers looking for a peaceful escape can enjoy some of the most intense aqua colored waters in the world while laying back and enjoying the tropical paradise.

4. Los Cabos, Mexico

Los Cabos is one of the top 5 tourist destinations in Mexico and is well known for its beaches, scuba diving and all-inclusive resorts. Americans flock to Los Cabos every year with it's close proximity to Los Angeles and 2.5 hour flight time. 

Mexico has some of the most relaxed entry requirements for American travelers making it the top choice for vacations during the pandemic.

3. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Punta Cana is one of the most sought after destinations in all of the Caribbean and is well known for its beautiful pristine beaches. With some of the most famous all-inclusive vacations, luxury resorts and tropical weather, millions of U.S. tourists travel to Punta Cana yearly. 

The Dominican Republic recently announced that all tourists staying in hotels will receive free travel insurance that covers covid-19 until April 2021.

The Riviera Maya, also known as the Mexican Caribbean comes in at number 2 on the list of Americans top 10 international destinations for 2021. Every year millions of Americans flock to the large all-inclusive resorts as well as smaller boutique hotels that cater to all types of travelers. 

The family friendly destination has endless things to do including amusement parks, underwater caves, Mayan ruins and tropical beaches. 

From yoga retreats in Tulum to a vibrant nightlife scene in Playa Del Carmen, the Riviera Maya continues to grow in popularity with American travelers.

1. Cancun, Mexico

Cancun tops the list of Americans top 10 international destinations for 2021. During the pandemic, Cancun has remained the top destination for U.S. travelers with millions still visiting the tropical destination. 

With huge all-inclusive resorts, white sand beaches, aqua blue waters, great dining, shopping, entertainment and nightlife, Cancun is king. The city was created as a tourism mecca and caters to every type of traveler. 

With direct flights from every major city in the United States, Cancun has more connectivity then any other destination abroad.
