Whilst it may be home to one of the wonders of the world in the Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt is some much more than its admittedly impressive history. From sprawling traditional markets to modern beach resorts, Egypt has enough to satisfy any traveler's needs – and it's doors are well and truly open to the masses this year. Here are all the latest 2022 COVID-19 entry requirements for the US all travelers need to know before booking their trip.

Entry Requirements For Countries Permitted to Visit Egypt For Tourism

COVID-19 Testing Entry Requirements

Most travelers heading to Egypt must show a negative PCR or antigen test certificate, with results in either English or Arabic. The certificate must be issued no more than 72 hours (24 hours for antigen tests) before the flight to Egypt. However, for those coming from Japan, China, Thailand, North America, South America, Canada, London, Paris, and Frankfurt, the window is stretched to 96 hours.

For travelers who are fully vaccinated in a country that provides a QR code on its vaccination certificate – such as the NHS app or the EUDCC – there is no testing requirement.

Quarantine Entry Requirements

Travelers do not need to quarantine when entering the country. However, those who test positive whilst in Egypt will be subjected to a 14 day mandatory quarantine period.

Health Form

All arrivals need to fill in a health care declaration form for Egypt. The form will ask their basic travel information, contact details and about symptoms and exposure to Covid-19. These can be completed online or during the flight.

COVID-19 Travel Insurance Entry Requirements

Egypt has made travel insurance a mandatory requirement. However, they have not specified minimum requirements other than lasting the duration of stay. It is recommended that all travelers purchase a solid travel insurance policy prior to starting their journey to any destination.

COVID-19 Health Requirements While in Egypt

It is compulsory to wear a face mask when out in public in Egypt, including when on public transportation. Travelers should be aware that restrictions can change quickly.

COVID-19 Vaccine Entry Requirements

Vaccination is not a requirement for entry, with negative testing permitted as a means of entry for those who are not vaccinated. Those who are vaccinated but do not have a QR code on their certificate may not be accepted.

Visa Entry Requirements For Egypt During COVID-19

Typical visa requirements are in force once more in Egypt, with some travelers needing to obtain a visa prior to travel. Travelers should carefully research their visa requirements prior to flying to Egypt.

Mandatory masking while outside. No thanks.

@Philippe, 100% true - the only places they somewhat ask you wear them are inside the museums - but even there everyone wears them under the nose. Everywhere else pretty much no need. I was there July/August and outdoors NO ONE wears a mask nor do they wear outside in restaurants. In the huge malls once you get past the obligatory checkpoint, masks go under the nose or in most cases under the chin.

@Stephen Suley, don't worry, the "mandatory mask" outside is never respected in Egypt, sometimes in Cairo but very rarely !
