Lithuania Returns To Normality

Lithuania has become the latest nation to remove all COVID-19 entry requirements. The small European nation—like various nations around the world—is removing all entry requirements from May 1, 2022.

The New Entry Requirements

From May 1, 2022, travelers will face zero-entry restrictions when arriving in Lithuania. Prior to this, travelers from specific nations had to show proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test; this is no longer the case from next month.

Tourists, regardless of the country they are visiting from, will be able to enter Lithuania restriction-free.

The local authorities said: “Travelers arriving in Lithuania from anywhere in the world will no longer be subject to any COVID-19 management requirements: they will no longer need to take a COVID-19 test before traveling, even if they are ill or vaccinated, and will not have to complete a National Public Health Center questionnaire.”

In summary, all travelers can enter Lithuania without:

  • Proof of vaccination
  • Testing requirements
  • Passenger locator forms
  • Quarantine

Although proof of travel health insurance is not needed to enter Lithuania, all travelers should have a policy that covers getting covid abroad.

It’s more great news for the travel industry as 2022 continues to be a comeback year. Almost 40 countries around the world have now removed all covid-related entry requirements.

However, what about Lithuania's internal COVID-19 restrictions?

The Current Internal COVID-19 Restrictions

Like many European countries, Lithuania has scrapped most internal COVID-19 restrictions.

A. Bilotienė-Motiejūnienė, the deputy minister, said: “We are not saying that it is gone, but it is manageable because the level of immunization is high and today we have half or a few more unvaccinated people who are seriously ill. That means vaccines are working,”

Most importantly, Lithuania is removing mandatory masks in public transit—including in airports and on trains.

A. Bilotienė-Motiejūnienė said: “If there is a requirement for the country we are flying to, we may have to put on masks. Undoubtedly, the practices of the countries today are different, but all countries are moving towards the same transition. Depending on the decision of the party, this may change.

At the airport itself, according to our new procedure, masks will not be mandatory before boarding the plane, but the recommendation remains,” she added.

However, travelers will still need to wear masks if they’re visiting medical institutions.

In summary, Lithuania is open for tourism with:

  • No curfews
  • No social distancing
  • No restriction on movement
  • No restricted opening hours
  • No mandatory masks

The COVID-19 Situation In Lithuania

Lithuania is currently witnessing its lowest 7-day COVID-19 case average since last summer. The current 7-day case average is 604; that’s down from around 10,000 in February.

The nation has fully vaccinated 81.36% of its entire population since the pandemic started, which is one of the higher vaccination rates in Europe.

The Top Things To Do In Lithuania

Although Lithuania isn’t one of the most popular destinations for tourists visiting Europe, the nation has many hidden gems.

Here are some of the best things to do:

1. Wander Around Vilnius Old Town

Lithuania has an excellent history. There’s no better place to experience this than Vilnius Old Town because it’s one of the oldest standing medieval old towns in Northern Europe.

Visitors adore the Gothic and baroque-style buildings. What’s more, the Medieval Gediminas Castle Tower offers outstanding views of the nation's capital.

2. Explore The KGB Museum

The KGB Museum showcases the vast history of the region. Not only is the museum cheap to enter, but it also showcases the tough history of the nation while under various occupations.

The museum has packed the first and second floors with powerful photographs and artifacts. If you have an interest in the Soviet Union—this is the place for you.

3. Hike Around The Curonian Spit/Kursiu Nerija National Park

Do you love nature? If so—check out the Curonian Spit/Kursiu Nerija National Park. You can effortlessly access it via boat from Klaipeda.

Once you arrive, you’ll witness outstanding scenery—including beaches, forests, German bunkers from WW2, and quaint towns with many excellent shops. It’s the perfect place in Europe if you want to escape the tourists.
