Low Cost Canadian Airline Will Fly Into Punta Cana
Swoop, the Canadian budget airline, has launched a new direct route from Toronto to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
According to the carrier, flights will run twice weekly, on Sundays and Tuesdays. The direct flight will have a total air time of five and a half hours.
Swoop are hoping to capitalize on the pent up demand for travel, combined with the harsh Canadian winters that Toronto locals will be looking to escape from.
The airline is pushing tickets for as little as $200 one-way, but Swoop’s format is a base seat price system. Passengers are quoted the price for only the seat, then add other aspects as they work through the process, like baggage, seat selections, and others.
They follow a growing trend of investment into the Caribbean as the world tries to emerge from the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic. They have also added flights to Mexico and Jamaica in addition to their previously listed routes.
Bert van der Stege, Head of Commercial and Finance for swoop said, “We’re pleased to celebrate the launch of our new flights between Punta Cana and Toronto, creating enhanced connectivity between Canada and the Dominican Republic. Demand for air travel continues to rebound and we’re confident this new air service will be popular amongst travelers and support the recovery of the tourism economy of the region.”
Breakdown of entry requirements to The Dominican Republic.
Currently, the Dominican Republic has one of the most relaxed entry policies in the world. It’s one a small number of countries across the planet that does not have any restrictions on entering.
That means that whether you are vaccinated or unvaccinated, you are not barred from entry, with or without a test. It is always still advised that passengers are tested, but the requirement is in no way a rule that will be enforced.
There are also no quarantine restrictions in place, meaning upon entry, you are free to enjoy your vacation. However, once in the country, there are some rules that must be acknowledged. There are some random breath tests given to a percentage of arrivals, but if a passenger is vaccinated and provides proof, they will be exempt from this test also.
When staying in an approved resort or hotel, visitors can enjoy life on the island in as normal a manner as possible. There will be no restrictions or requirements for tourists to enter restaurants, clubs, or any other activities provided by their chosen accommodation.
But if the visitor chooses to leave the resort, they are then under the rules of the rest of the country. Proof of vaccination or covid tests must be shown to enter establishments in the non-tourist based areas of the city.
It should be noted these requirements are correct as they apply to travelers from the United States. Several other countries have added restrictions. Please check here for complete details.
