The leading biometrics company CLEAR and popular transportation app Uber has formed a partnership that looks to make getting to the airport on time for a flight a stress free experience for travelers in the US. With travel being a stressful experience at the best of times – let alone during a global pandemic where rules and regulations change almost daily – the partnership will help eliminate some of those stresses and ensure travelers don't have to worry about being late for flights.
The new feature has been launched just in time for the holiday travel period, during which millions of Americans are expected to travel domestically – despite the growing threat of the Omicron variant. Here's everything you need to know about the partnership between the two companies, and why it will help to make travel a walk in the park for millions of Americans.
New Airport Transfer Solution – What Travelers Should Know
When it comes to traveling to an airport, there are several reasons why using taxis is so popular amongst Americans. From not having to worry about the drive to avoiding those pricey airport long term parking fees, millions of Americans each year choose to start their trips with a taxi journey. Prior to the pandemic, 22% of Uber users said that they used the platform most often for trips to the airport – and, with the new partnership between CLEAR and Uber, that figure could be set to rise.
The new partnership between the two companies will see Uber's travel platform integrated with CLEAR's “Home to Gate” feature. By combining the two, travelers will be able to find out exactly when they should leave for their flight, and it will give them the ability to reserve an Uber ride ahead of their departure date – creating a travel experience that is much more streamlined, easier and worry-free for travelers.
The “Home To Gate” feature assesses a number of factors, such as traffic levels, security screening time and distance needed to walk through the airport to provide travelers an extremely accurate time that they should leave in order to arrive at their gate on time for their flight. By adding the ability to book an Uber ahead of time, the stresses of working out when to book a taxi for are taken out of the traveler's hands – leaving them free to only worry about what they should pack.
A free feature of the CLEAR app, here's how travelers can use it:
- Open the free CLEAR App and tap the “Home to Gate” tile
- Share location and flight details, and – using data driven insights – Home To Gate will tell the traveler the best time to leave for their flight
- Tap the “Get A Ride With Uber ” button and the Uber app will have a ride reservation ready to go with all the trip details
Speaking about the new partnership, Uber's Head of Mobility in the US & Canada, Dennis Cinelli, said:
“We're thrilled to partner with CLEAR to alleviate some of the holiday travel stress. As we look to a busy holiday season, we're focused on getting travelers where they need to go as quickly and easily as possible. Our integration with CLEAR will take the guesswork out of travel and give users peace of mind knowing they'll get to the airport on time.”
This isn't the first time that companies have sought to enhance journeys to the airport during the pandemic. Back in February, United Airlines made a significant $1B investment in a company that was developing electric-powered VTOL aircraft that would be used to ferry passengers to their airport. However, with production of the aircraft not expected until 2023, travelers will have to make do Uber for their airport transport means for the time being.

Clear is an evil vaccine passport company. Boycott it if you ever want to travel freely again!
