Town's History
In 1704, Jesuit friars arrived by chance at the present site of Mulege and, in 1705, founded the first Hispanic settlement, the Mission of Santa Rosalia de Mulege. On October 2, 1847, the Mexican army was victorious in Mulege, dealing a severe and unexpected blow to American troops during the American War of Intervention. This win gave the town its official name, “Heroic Mulege.”
