Mulege is a town in Baja California Sur, facing the Sea of Cortez and 38 miles from Santa Rosalia. The best known geographical reference of the town is the Mulege River. The most practical way to get to Mulege is from La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur, which has an international airport.

Town's History

In 1704, Jesuit friars arrived by chance at the present site of Mulege and, in 1705, founded the first Hispanic settlement, the Mission of Santa Rosalia de Mulege. On October 2,  1847, the Mexican army was victorious in Mulege, dealing a severe and unexpected blow to American troops during the American War of Intervention. This win gave the town its official name, “Heroic Mulege.”

Weather in Mulege

The climate that predominates in Baja California Sur is dry, and Mulege is not the exception, all thanks to the town's desert. However, the weather in Mulege is a little more varied due to the mountain range that crosses the town and provides a somewhat different environment. It hardly rains, and the scarce precipitations occur between June and March. The average temperature in Mulege is 74 °F, with January being the coolest month at 60 °F. July and August are the warmest months, with highs at 100 °F on hot summer days.
