As travel starts to pick up throughout 2021, many travelers are wondering what countries they can visit if they only have access to Antigen-type testing. Antigen (or rapid viral tests as they are frequently called) have some pros over the ‘industry standard’ PCR tests. Antigen tests are typically less invasive, provide results in a much faster timeframe, and are less expensive than PCR tests.
With international travel (especially with layovers!) being extremely hard to navigate during the past year, Antigen tests are easier to get on the go, especially as some provide results within minutes. They have become a favorite type of test for frequent travelers throughout the pandemic.
Below we’ve listed all the countries that as of early-2022 are currently accepting Antigen tests for entry. They may also accept other types of tests, like PCR or NAAT for example, but we’ve had multiple requests to make a list of nations allowing entry with a negative Antigen test result.
This list is dynamic. It can change very frequently, so double-check the current rules before you head to the airport. In addition, if you know of a country that allows Antigen tests for entry that is not listed, comment below so we can add it.

This is outdated for Italy. They now require vaccine proof and an antigen or PCR test within 72 hours before arrival. Per it.usembassy.gov “Beginning on August 31 and valid until October 25, 2021, travelers from the United States may enter Italy if they present a negative molecular PCR or rapid antigen test result carried out within 72 hours of arrival AND one of the following: -An Anti-COVID 19 vaccination certificate for an European Medicines Agency (EMA)-recognized vaccine. At present, EMA recognizes the following vaccines: Pfizer-BioNtech, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson, and AstraZeneca. The date of the final vaccine dose must be at least 14 days prior to travel. Travelers vaccinated in the United States can prove this via the “white card” bearing the CDC logo. -A medical certificate confirming recovery from COVID dated no more than six months before departure.”

@SV, I flew out of Milan to SFO via Frankfurt on October 2nd. Lufthansa did not accept my Ellume home test. It was even unfamiliar to the agent at check in. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to the pharmacy in the airport (Malpensa) downstairs and get a rapid test. I now see that I missed the part about having a proctor as the test is being done. I did not see the information anywhere on various websites before I left, and it is crucial information! PS: I tried to get a test at a pharmacy in Milan, but they were booked solid now that travel has opened up. So I recommend either making an appointment as early as you can (I can't speak to other countries), or follow the rules exactly as they are laid out for a home test which you take with you.
